Thinking about exploring Salcombe with your dog? We’ve compiled a list of dog-friendly Salcombe spots that you will love to explore with your canine companion.

If you are a dog parent, you will most likely want to take your furry friend with you on holiday. After all, they are part of the family! Fortunately, Salcombe is perfect for our four-legged friends, as there is plenty of countryside and coastline to explore with dogs.

Most of the time, finding pet-friendly accommodation is tricky. However, at Finest Stays we have a selection of dog-friendly cottages in Salcombe so that you don’t have to worry about that.

Once you have your accommodation, you just need to plan what you are going to do from your base in Salcombe, and we’ve got the perfect suggestions for you. Here are some of the best places, including dog-friendly beaches in Salcombe, to visit with your woofer.

North Sands

North Sands Salcombe

Just 15 minutes on foot with your dog along the coastline from Salcombe, you can get to North Sands, one of the most popular dog-friendly beaches in Salcombe. And if you don’t feel like walking, there is also parking behind the beach.

This is a wonderful safe sandy beach from which you can really appreciate the beautiful Salcombe estuary. The beach welcomes dogs all year round and there is even a dog-friendly beach café called The Winking Prawn behind North Sands.

North Sands is a very popular beach with families, so it can get busy in the summer. We recommend choosing a time when the tide is low so you have plenty of space to walk around and enjoy your stroll whilst throwing a ball for your dog.

Snapes Point

Snapes Point View

If you want to get away from the town centre of Salcombe, we recommend the hike to Snapes Point. You can drive to the start of the circular walk which is a National Trust car park). This is a great walk for your dog too (warning there may be sheep in one field) and you will be rewarded with phenomenal panoramic views of the whole Salcombe and Kingsbridge estuary.

South Milton Sands

South Milton Sands or Thurlestone Beach is situated in between Thurlestone and South Milton, and there is a useful National Trust car park to start your walk from. This is a particularly special dog-friendly beach to go to to watch the sunset.

Your dog will have plenty of space here to run along the long sandy stretch, and you can enjoy the wonderful views across to the Thurlestone Rock and beyond. This beach is very popular with dog walkers, so your dog is likely to make some new friends there.

The ever-popular South Milton Beachhouse is a great place to grab a coffee or delicious lunch, and there is always a bowl of water for doggies.

Hope Cove

If you prefer a longer hike, walking from Salcombe to Hope Cove with your dog could be perfect for you. The coastline is utterly stunning with wild coastal flowers, emerald waters, hidden coves and the occasional seal.

Once in Hope Cove, there is a selection of beaches to explore, or you can rest by having a drink and some food in one of the pubs or restaurants. Hope Cove House is splendid for a meal with a decent wine list. The Cove does a mean plate of fajitas with a view out to sea.

Dog-friendly Salcombe Restaurants

There is so much more you can do with your pet in Salcombe besides going for walks or to the beach! You can also enjoy a meal in one of the dog-friendly Salcombe restaurants. Some of the most popular ones are The Winking Prawn, Island Street Bar & Grill, The Victoria Inn and some of them even offer special menus for dogs!
