Skylark Overview

Designed by renowned architect Stan Bolt, Quarry House is a stunning home surrounded by beautifully designed gardens all set in a peaceful village location. It is the perfect sanctuary for a family holiday, and within striking distance of plenty of footpaths, beaches and coastal destinations.

From your private parking area with EV charging point, enter the house into the hallway with its vaulted ceiling, large rear window and impressive open tread staircase that leads up to the main living area. The exposed metal stairs, concrete walls and brightly coloured rugs set the tone for this incredible house.

Just off the entrance hallway there is a snug with soft seating and a gigantic 75 inch television with cinema sound; the perfect place to escape for a Hollywood blockbuster. From here you can also find the practical utility area and cloakroom.

There are two well-proportioned bedrooms on the ground floor each having floor to ceiling glass windows and doors with access via bridges over a rainwater feature to the front garden.

A sophisticated king size bedroom with en suite bathroom sits at the far side of the ground floor. With a separate bath and shower, this is the perfect place to relax in luxury.

The second bedroom is a masculine twin room with grown up headboards which enjoys a fabulous brightly coloured shower room that is right next door.

Upstairs is a huge master bedroom with vaulted ceiling and incredible views through the floor to ceiling windows. To the side, a large pivot door opens onto a private deck with sensational views across the countryside and beyond to the Salcombe-Kingsbridge estuary. A separate dressing area, plus palatial en suite bathroom finishes off this sensational bedroom.

The bright and spacious open plan kitchen, dining and sitting room are fronted by huge glass windows so that you can enjoy the rural and sea views; sunsets really are very special indeed. In the evening fire up the wood burner for an extra hit of ambience and warmth.with a hot tub for the ultimate relaxation.

The kitchen is one of the most notable architectural features of the house. A clever pod gives the kitchen its own zone and styling. The caravan shape is clad in Iroko and houses the bespoke kitchen looking out to the wonderful views beyond.

The sitting area opens out onto a large side deck where you can enjoy al fresco dining, or begin a walk around the gorgeous gardens. Wander amongst beautifully planted areas designed for complete privacy, and discover the Shepherds Hut. It is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a drink whilst taking in the spectacular views across the South Hams and over towards the Salcombe-Kingsbridge estuary. There is even a wood burner inside the hut for keeping you warm and toasty on chillier evenings. Tucked into a private corner of the garden is a hot tub for the ultimate relaxation.

Location: West Charleton is a quiet village sitting pretty in the South Hams. Quarry House is 15 minutes from Salcombe, 10-15 minutes from Torcross, Slapton Sands and Start Point (all have epic sunsets), and 20 minutes from Hope Cove, Thurlestone and surfers paradise, Bantham Beach.

Many pubs are within easy reach including the ever popular Millbrook Inn, The Globe (they have a fab seafood pancake), Tower Inn (epic Sunday roast) and closer to home, the Bear & Blacksmith, plus the wonderful Crabshell sitting right on the waterfront of Kingsbridge.

Two dogs are very welcome at Skylark - please note there is an additional charge !

No smoking inside.

Please note that there is also an additional twin room but this is out of bounds. Unfortunately, if this room is used there will be an additional charge. Skylark is the reduced occupancy version of Quarry House. If you're a larger party looking for full use of this property do take a look at Quarry House.

Kingsbridge Travel

How to get to Kingsbridge Kingsbridge is a beautiful Devon town in a stunning location, sitting at the head of the Salcombe estuary (actually a ria) this charming market town is loved by locals and visitors alike - and it just keeps giving! Think independent local shops, great deli cafes, award-winning restaurants and the beautiful quay with its moorings, popular with stand-up paddleboarders. The town has regular monthly Farmers’ markets, arts and crafts markets in the town hall and some newly emerging antique shops. So, you’ve booked your luxury holiday home with Finest Stays and are considering how to get to Kingsbridge, here’s a quick rundown of Kingsbridge travel. Flying to Kingsbridge Fly into Exeter or Bristol airports; You can fly into Exeter from Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Guernsey, Dublin, Belfast  City, Jersey, Isles of Scilly and numerous European cities. Pick up a hire car and drive to Kingsbridge, about 45 miles. Arrive at Bristol airport (108 miles) and pick up a hire car or get the train from Bristol to Totnes then get a taxi to Kingsbridge or hop on the 164 bus.    Driving to Kingsbridge Travelling from Wales, Midlands and the North, drive down to Exeter on the M5. From London, you can either come along the M4 and join the M5 at Bristol or take the M3/A303/A30 route and join the M5 at Exeter. The M5 converges into the A38 where you take the right-hand lane for Haldon Hill. Kingsbridge is easily accessed from this dual carriageway which links Plymouth and Exeter. Continue along the road with the slopes of Dartmoor on your right until you reach signs for Totnes and Kingsbridge, the slip road to your left takes you onto the A384. You don’t drive through Totnes town (but worth a visit during your stay), instead follow the A381 signposted for Dartmouth and Kingsbridge. The drive from Bristol will take a couple of hours and from London around 4.5 hours depending on traffic.   Kingsbridge by Train Totnes is just 13 miles from Kingsbridge and it’s the nearest railway station with regular trains running from London Paddington, the North, Wales and Birmingham. The journey time from Bristol is 2 hours and it’s a swift 3 hours(or thereabouts) from London Paddington. On arriving at Totnes station you can pick up a taxi, the fare is around £26 and it’s about a half an hour ride to Kingsbridge. Taxi Numbers During busy times we recommend pre-booking your cab as the taxi rank at Totnes can get quite busy with travellers waiting for their onward journey.
