Mole House Overview

Situated in Chillington, an utterly beautiful small village that sits between Salcombe and Dartmouth; the perfect base for exploring both towns and their surrounding areas of outstanding natural beauty - and just a short drive away from perfect beaches and the deep blue sea. Mole House is an enormous Georgian house with lots of space. The acre of land surrounding Mole is there to be explored freely. Help yourself to the apples growing in the orchard, or host a competitive croquet match with a drink in hand. If that’s all too hectic, simply find a spot to relax in the sunshine on a balmy day and breathe in the fresh sea air. Dogs will love running around the large lawns and exploring the grounds - come the cooler months, they will adore snoozing next to the crackling log fire after days exploring the local beaches. Find the fabulous snug corner of the garden with garden sofas and a fire pit for cosy evenings with music, wine and late night chats under the stars.

Entering the house into the utility area (where there are wellies for you to use on muddy walks) and onto the kitchen, you’ll be in the heart of the house where the culinary magic happens, and probably the odd late night story told over a few drinks. The kitchen has a table and benches which is perfect for kids’ suppers or informal breakfasts.

The kitchen leads out via french doors to a fantastic sun trap area for al fresco dining and to the sheltered walled garden. Enjoy lunches in the sunshine, or get those sausages sizzling on the charcoal barbecue in the evenings.

The more formal dining room next door to the kitchen used to be a simple 16th century dwelling. It seats up to 10 guests and is absolutely gorgeous with the huge fireplace with a wood burning stove harking back to days of old. This leads to the smaller of the sitting rooms and onto the main hallway of the house. A second stunning sitting room (with television) and wood-burner will be a top spot to crash out after a long countryside walk or paddle-boarding adventure along the nearby coastline. Find fabulous garden games in the utility cupboards for those sunny days, or a selection of board games for chilly evenings with a glass of wine. Little ones will adore this space and children and babes in arms are most welcome!

Upstairs there are 2 floors of accommodation and the four beautiful (and very large!) bedrooms. Mole's master bedroom has a super king-size bed and Jack-and-Jill bathroom which is shared with another king-size bedroom. The first floor is also home to another king-size bedroom with adjacent shower room, while up the gorgeous Chinese lattice Chippendale staircase to the second floor are two super king-size zip-and-link bedrooms which share a Jack-and-Jill bathroom.

Relax, enjoy the fresh air, take in the incredible sunsets, and light cosy fires in the evening. Welcome to Mole House.

Little things you might like to note:

Two dogs of any size are very welcome at Mole House, with plenty of garden space for them to explore. Pooch owners, we ask that you clear up after your furry friends before departing at the end of your holiday.

There is plenty of private off-road parking on the large driveway for several cars.

Need a travel cot and high chair? Absolutely! Just let us know when you make your booking and we will set it all up for you. Please bring your own linens for the travel cot.

Mole House is the reduced occupancy version of Maberly House. If you're a larger party looking for full use of this property please do take a look at Maberly House. Because Mole House is the reduced occupancy version of this house, we ask you to note that there is also a top floor but these rooms are out of bounds. Unfortunately, if these rooms are used there will be an additional charge.

If you have allergies please do note that dogs have been in Mole House.

When you arrive, there will be some logs and kindling to get you started on the fire for your first night. You will also find milk in the fridge for your first cup of tea, with some tea bags and Nespresso pods too. Plus a welcome cake for you all to tuck into before unpacking!

Thank you we had a super easy journey home and the most wonderful week at Molescombe House. The property is beautiful! It’s easy to see this is a well loved family home and not just a holiday rental. The whole house is comfortable, cosy and has the most relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. We spent lots of time in the lovely big kitchen and found everything we needed to cook and prepared our own meals. The house is so well equipment and has an abundance of pots, pans, tableware and cutlery & all of super quality. Beds and bedding of a luxurious standard.

Mole House was all we could have wished. We had plenty of room to spread out with three families of all ages in occupation. The garden in particular was a source of fun for our four grandsons. Then almost daily visits to Mill Bay, easily reached from this side of the estuary. Millbrook Inn 5 minutes away. Couldn’t’ be better, and therefore 5 Stars.

Check-in was very simple and we were welcomed into an immaculately clean house in close proximity to all the beauty the South Hams offers. Couldn't fault a fantastic stay in a fantastic home. Thank you.

Think independent local shops, great deli cafes, award-winning restaurants and the beautiful quay with its moorings, popular with stand-up paddleboarders. Flying to Kingsbridge Fly into Exeter or Bristol airports; You can fly into Exeter from Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Guernsey, Dublin, Belfast  City, Jersey, Isles of Scilly and numerous European cities. Pick up a hire car and drive to Kingsbridge, about 45 miles. Arrive at Bristol airport (108 miles) and pick up a hire car or get the train from Bristol to Totnes then get a taxi to Kingsbridge or hop on the 164 bus.    Driving to Kingsbridge Travelling from Wales, Midlands and the North, drive down to Exeter on the M5. From London, you can either come along the M4 and join the M5 at Bristol or take the M3/A303/A30 route and join the M5 at Exeter. The M5 converges into the A38 where you take the right-hand lane for Haldon Hill. Kingsbridge is easily accessed from this dual carriageway which links Plymouth and Exeter. Continue along the road with the slopes of Dartmoor on your right until you reach signs for Totnes and Kingsbridge, the slip road to your left takes you onto the A384.
