Salcombe Cafes and Deli’s
Sometimes we wonder about how many sandwiches and rolls are made in homes and deli’s each summer in Salcombe! With around 19,000 people here in the school holidays we must be talking tens of thousands! For those sourcing local fillings for sandwiches or preferring the whole picnic to be made by someone else, there are six food shops we think you need to consider:
The Pantry
Fantastic coffee shop with a great selection of freshly made sandwiches and local products. Their drink selection includes San Peligrino fizzy drinks and local Luscombe fruit juices. Freshly baked pasties are available all day long.
The Salcombe Yawl
In our opinion, the best deli in town making the freshest and most delicious sandwiches. Situated opposite The Pasty Shack, this little gem serves food all day with a range of soft drinks and delicious coffees . They have toastie machines if you fancy something hot when you get off the water at the end of the day.
Salcombe Delicatessen
In a great spot near the ferry steps at the top Fore Street, the Salcombe deli has a good selection of the usual deli items and they make great sandwiches. Also selling ice-cream, this is a good one-stop shop for your picnic. You must try their crab sandwich if you get a chance.
Cranch’s Pantry
This independent grocers is filled to the gunnels with goods including fresh fruit and veg to smoked salmon pate and clotted cream. If you can’t see what you need, just ask as it’s usually tucked away somewhere! They also have fresh flowers on sale.
The Bakehouse
Rebranded from the Upper Crust, this is THE ultimate bakery. Come here for your morning croissants (just follow the smell of freshly baked bread) and stock up for your picnic – cheese straws, loaves of bread, french sticks, floury baps, doughnuts and flapjacks.
Coleman’s Butchers
A family run butchers with locally sourced meats including everything you’d need for a beach BBQ or meat and cheese for your sandwich fillings. They are famous for their homemade sausages – they really do taste excellent.
