The Ferry Inn must be the best located pub in the whole of the UK, if not one of the best pubs in Salcombe. It is right on the water’s edge with fabulous views across the estuary. Sitting on the wall, legs dangling and a drink in hand is a must-do when in Salcombe. The Ferry Inn is more than just stunning views, it also has a rich history. Dating from 1739, it is Salcombe’s oldest pub. If you are lucky, you may even meet Winston, the resident pub dog!
The Victoria (Salcombe)
The Victoria jokes that they offer a man-crèche; ladies leave your husband’s in our safe hands whilst you go shopping! This is a valued service, but don’t you ladies miss out on some locally sourced deliciousness! With a roaring log fire and a cockle-warming crab bisque for a winter’s day, you will be very happy tucked in The Victoria Inn in Salcombe. Island Street Bar and Grill (Salcombe)
One of the best Salcombe bars, the Island Street Bar and Grill is alive and kicking with live music every weekend and a popular cocktail 2-for-1 happy hour on a Friday night. This waterfront bar is definitely one to try if you fancy having a boogey. Throughout the day and evening, they also serve a menu including burgers, steaks and BBQ spare ribs.
The Millbrook (Southpool)
Offering a gastronomic experience with food from an award-winning French chef, J-P (booking is essential) The Millbrook is one of the best pubs near Salcombe. Be prepared for some quirkiness including Squirrel wrapped in Rabbit! In the summer months, enjoy good quality freshly grilled fish, paellas and local sausages from the outdoor BBQ. The best way to get to the Millbrook is by boat in the summer when there are big Spring tides enabling you to travel up the creek (with a paddle). The beautiful journey leads you through Swallows and Amazons-esque settings.
The Crabshell (Kingsbridge)
The Crabshell has seen a revival over the past 3 years and has transformed into one of the best pubs near Salcombe. They have creatively taken it from a smelly, rundown waterside hovel into a buzzing, successful waterside destination. From Salcombe, the best way to get to The Crabshell is by boat – cruise up the estuary towards Kingsbridge, tie up against the wall and hop up to the bar! They serve great pub food too with a seafood slant plus pizzas homemade and baked in their wood-fired oven.
The Fortescue Inn (Salcombe)
The Fortescue Inn, Salcombe, is one of the town’s more traditional establishments. The pub serves food and drinks to suit a range of budgets and has a garden for the summer months. If you have spent the day on the water and are in need of refuelling, look no further than The Fortescue Inn’s infamous pizza that is served every day from 4pm. Hope and Anchor (Hope Cove, Kingsbridge)
