Slapton & Torcross beaches
This long stretch of beach is beautiful and you can fish from anywhere along the shore. At one end you have Strete Gate and the other end is Torcross, a popular spot with families where the fishermen’s houses line the prom. There’s a pub and a couple of cafes so it’s the perfect spot for a swim and lunch. But the steeply shelving waters offer ideal conditions for fishing. Walk a short distance along the beach and you’ll find yourself on your own. The steep pebble banks provide the perfect spot for setting up camp and the rod. Arrive early evening and you could land bass, pollack, pouting, plaice, sole and dab.
This is such a great location for a family holiday or a get together with friends so why not book The Lodge for easy access to some of the best fishing in Devon and the most splendid views of Start Bay, Slapton Sands, Torcross and round to Start Point lighthouse. Beesands beach
This charming fishing village is well and truly off the beaten track. Sitting just along the coast between Torcross and Start Lighthouse, Beesands is home to The Cricket pub, Britannia on the Beach fish and a line of charming fishermen’s cottages.
The long shingle beach is steeply shelving and is perfect for beach fishing so you can reach deep water without too much effort. Skerries Bank, (a natural sandbank which is protected from commercial fishing) is not too far so you could land plaice as well as pollack, pouting, dab and bass into the evening and early morning. The beach is usually pretty quiet with just a few swimmers and kayakers. Apart from that you’ll just be rubbing shoulders with fellow fishermen. So if fishing is on your wishlist, book Mole House which is within easy reach of this relaxing spot. Beesands has to be one of our favourite spots for a fishing holiday in Devon.

East Portlemouth Beaches & the Salcombe estuary
Bustling Salcombe offers a different experience for a fishing holiday in Devon. The estuary waters are busy and the beaches can get crowded but get your timings right (early morning or later in the evening) and you’ll have the best time and hopefully land pollack, mackerel, gurnard or bass. East Portlemouth and Millbay are popular with anglers, the beaches and rocks here offer a good base for fishing.
Nearby Snapes Point is a favourite spot with the local anglers, especially on an incoming tide. Book a two hour mackerel fishing trip or charter a boat through Salcombe Angling. Explore the estuary on a hire boat from Whitestrand Boat Hire or head out in the open waters for sea angling… you may even land a John Dory! Many of our luxury holiday homes in Salcombe are just a short stroll from Whitestrand where you can pick up your hire boat or jump on a ferry across to East Portlemouth.
