Wolf Rock Overview

Wolf Rock enjoys an enviable position, perched gracefully above the water with sweeping views across the Salcombe estuary. From here, the scene unfolds in every direction, across to the soft, sandy shores of East Portlemouth, out towards the open sea, and along the ever-changing tidal estuary as it winds its way inland. It is a setting that feels both peaceful and quietly captivating.

Set on the historic site of the former Sunny Cliff Hotel, the apartment sits right on the water’s edge, offering a true sense of coastal living at its finest.

Inside, the principal bedroom is a calming retreat, complete with a super king bed and a beautifully appointed en suite, where even a morning shower comes with uninterrupted views across the harbour. The second bedroom is equally inviting, with a king size bed, its own en suite bathroom, and those same calming estuary vistas.

The heart of the home is the light-filled open-plan living space, which opens effortlessly onto a sun-drenched terrace, the perfect place to pause, unwind, lounge on the sunbeds and take in the ever-changing colours of the water. Enjoy your morning coffee and fresh croissants from this beautiful spot or prepare seafood suppers while watching the boats pass by in the evening light.

Below, the landscaped gardens lead gently down towards the water’s edge and slipway, inviting quiet exploration and moments by the shore (please note there are a number of steep steps, and children should be supervised).

Just a short stroll from the centre of Salcombe, Wolf Rock offers the perfect balance of seclusion and accessibility, close enough to enjoy the vibrant charm of the town, yet tucked away in a truly special waterside setting.

We had a great stay at Wolf Rock, definitely our favourite in the Sunny Cliff apartments so far, having stayed in Blackstone and Hygge several times before, and probably best in Salcombe for our taste and needs. The interior design is a great blend of cosy but contemporary, we loved the eclectic artwork. It’s great that both bedrooms felt special and had the water views and access to the terrace. The kitchen was quite small but generally well equipped. Everything was very comfortable, beds especially.

Our stay at Wolf Rock was perfect. The communication from the company was excellent prior to arriving with lots of information provided. The apartment is beautiful- spacious, spotlessly clean and with everything you could possibly need. In the hot weather it remained cool inside. The outstanding feature has to be the view which is spectacular. It is lovely just to sit in the garden and watch the boats. Very easy walk into Salcombe town or a slight hill walk to the beaches. Our first visit to Salcombe but we will be back.

We had an amazing time staying at Wolf Rock, from the moment we arrived to the very last second we left. On entering Wolf Rock we were blown away by the view, the layout of the space and the design and attention to detail was impeccable.The apartment is First Class in every way and without question receives a 5 star rating. Salcombe Town Regatta: A traditional seaside festival For many, the week in August that marks the Salcombe Town Regatta, is the stuff that childhood memories are made of, encompassing sandcastle competitions, races across the mud at low tide, spot the bloomer competitions, the 'greasy pole' (you really have to be there), fun runs, harbour swims, and all coming together in a spectacular torchlight water procession and fireworks display (oggy oggy oggy!). Fun and games for the whole family - the town becomes a hive of entertainment, brimming with bunting, a carnival atmosphere, a popular party on Island Street, and stalls to peruse in Whitestrand Car Park. Festivities on the water The water plays a pivotal role in the festivities, providing both the backdrop and much of the entertainment. Watch the action unfold or get involved in the harbour swim, greasy pole, raft races, mud races and more. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, sample some of South Devon’s finest local produce, from crab, fish and scallops to gin, clotted cream and fudge, either at Salcombe’s cafes, restaurants or the quayside stalls at Whitestrand. Fun for all the family The Salcombe Town Regatta has something for everyone but is very much geared towards families, with activities for all ages. Children’s races, crabbing competitions, treasure hunts and beach games provide plenty of entertainment for younger visitors. Traditional favourites include the Spot the Bloomer competition and a sandcastle competition at South Sands beach (there are some very serious sandcastle builders amongst us). Evening entertainment There’s a lively, inclusive atmosphere throughout Salcombe Regatta, with celebrations continuing from day into evening. The Island Street Party takes place on the first Sunday of the regatta bringing live music, food, drink, family activities and stalls selling local goods, while the week draws to a memorable close with a torch-lit lantern procession on the water followed by a spectacular fireworks display over the estuary. Salcombe Yacht Club Regatta: Sailing at its finest A more specialist occasion, but one that everyone who visits Salcombe can take enormous pleasure in watching, is the Salcombe Yacht Club Regatta - usually in the last week of July. For sailing enthusiasts, this thrilling week of competitive racing in one of the country’s most scenic natural harbours is a truly special occasion, and certainly the events are a sight to behold. Organised by the Salcombe Yacht Club, the regatta attracts experienced sailors and spectators as the estuary comes alive with yachts, dinghies, yawls, and more, racing across the water, creating a mesmerising scene against the green hills and sandy beaches. Visitors can watch the racing from the waterfront and nearby beaches while soaking up the maritime atmosphere, in an event that reflects Salcombe’s long-standing sailing heritage. More than sailing Beyond the regattas themselves, summer in Salcombe is the stuff that Pinterest boards are made of, offering plenty to enjoy, from natural scenery to local attractions. Beautiful beaches like North Sands and South Sands are perfect for swimming, paddleboarding and relaxing in the sun, while the South West Coast Path provides wonderful walks with panoramic sea views. On hot days, few things hit the spot quite like a Salcombe Dairy ice cream, and when those energy levels drop, a trip to the traditional Cranch’s Sweetshop is most definitely in order.
