Rockstedde Location
Salcombe is one of those rare places that captures you from the moment you arrive. Set along a beautiful estuary, with sweeping views across the harbour to golden beaches and open sea, it offers a timeless coastal charm that feels both relaxed and quietly sophisticated.
Life here centres around the water. Sailing boats drift across the estuary, paddleboards trace the shoreline and ferries slip back and forth to the sandy shores of East Portlemouth. Whether you’re drawn to time on the water or simply enjoy watching it from the harbour’s edge, there’s a gentle rhythm to days spent here.
In the heart of the town, Fore Street winds its way past independent boutiques, waterside cafés and much-loved local spots. Morning coffee turns into leisurely lunches, and afternoons are often rounded off with something sweet—perhaps ice cream from Salcombe Dairy or a visit to the traditional sweet shop that has delighted generations.
Just beyond the centre, coastal paths lead to hidden coves and wide sandy beaches, while North Sands and South Sands offer easy days by the sea. Here, long lunches roll into evenings, with the sound of the tide never far away. For those who enjoy walking, the South West Coast Path provides breathtaking views at every turn, while nearby gardens at Overbeck’s offer a quieter moment, rich with colour and far-reaching coastal vistas.
Out of season, Salcombe takes on a softer pace. The crowds drift away, leaving behind a peaceful waterside town where the beauty of the landscape feels even more pronounced. It’s this balance—vibrant in summer, calm and restorative beyond—that makes Salcombe such a special place to return to, time and again.
