Walking Routes in Thurlestone

We can’t think of a more relaxing way to relax and enjoy the stunning scenery than a good old stomp along the local tracks and trails. Thurlestone sits between Hope Cove and Bantham along the Southwest Coast path. A great starting point for exploring the rugged and beautiful coastline of South Devon with many of the villages and beaches within easy reach. Don’t forget to pack your towel and swim stuff and take a dip enroute.

We’ve selected a few of our favourite trails to set you off on the right foot and point out some lunchtime stopovers so you can refuel and refresh…

Thurlestone to Bantham & The River Avon

5.1 miles (8.1 km) Circular walk starting and finishing in Thurlestone or Bantham

This moderate walk meanders through woodlands with its birds and flowers, fields, quiet country lanes and tracks. The River Avon with its oyster beds (home to the annual ‘Swoosh’ swim which is held every July) is totally unspoilt. Continue along the unspoilt shoreline at Stiddicombe Creek to the village of Bantham (recommend lunch at the 14thC smugglers’ pub, The Sloop),  down to Bantham Sands and along the coast heading back to Thurlestone.

Check out the route here. If you’re starting the walk from Bantham follow from point 1 on the route. Starting from Thurlestone, use point 6 to begin your walk.
