Salcombe is a town which is proud of its heritage; so celebrating our culture is prime and centre in the 2017 calendar.
If you are planning a trip this summer, August plays host to the crown jewel in our events calendar: The Salcombe Town Regatta.
Held every summer for over 150 years, the weeklong Regatta celebrates maritime culture; promoting local initiatives and raising money for charities and organisations. Crab-Catching and Ice-Cream-Eating contests keep little sailors (or pirates!) entertained, while the adults can indulge in Great British Street Parties, packed full of fabulous food, live music and many sailing competitions. Stay all week and catch the famous fireworks display as the regatta concludes – the perfect way to cap off your stay in Salcombe.
Plan your holiday in Salcombe for November and witness the Devonshire Tar Barrels in Ottery St. Mary’s. While the Tar Barrel tradition is over 400 years old, its precise origins are still unknown, though it is often theorised the tradition took place after the gunpowder plot of 1605. Ottery is now the only town in the country where you can see full-sized lighted tar barrels carried by locals, brightening the streets and your visit to Salcombe.

Salcombe is known for its local food producers, so it’ll come as no surprise that there is a smorgasbord of farmer’s markets and food festivals to enjoy in 2017. he beauty of Salcombe’s luscious rolling countryside and coastline provide the perfect backdrop to our favourite festivals including the Dartmouth Food Festival and the Exeter Food Festival.
