Hope Cove Pubs and Bars

Nothing beats the feeling of relaxing in one of Hope Cove’s village pubs after a day at the beach or a long walk on the South West Coastal Path. Stunning coastal views combined with delicious locally brewed beer – what could be better?

There are plenty of pubs to choose from in and around Hope Cove. Most of them serve delicious food as well, so you can fill your belly as well as satisfy your thirst. Whether you are visiting South Devon in the summer or winter, these pubs are a must-visit. Dine alfresco in the warmer months and relax by the fireplace in the cooler months.

The Cove

Recently awarded the UK’s Best Independent Craft Beer Bar, the Cove Cafe Bar has over fifty beers, ales, and ciders on offer. Its taps are ever-changing, so you can try a different local beer each time you visit! Located on two levels, this eatery offers both indoor and outdoor seating and has a good range of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options.

As one of the most diverse live music venues in the South Hams, hosting performers from across the country as well as supporting local artists, The Cove is a really social pub. It also shows live sports across multiple screens, making it a popular destination all year round. In the warmer months, sit on the upper outdoor terrace and enjoy a lively atmosphere as well as views over the village and beyond.

The Hope and Anchor

Located in Outer Hope, the Hope and Anchor is owned and operated by the Cornish brewery, St Austell Brewery. In the summer months, you can enjoy dining outside, and when the weather turns cold, cosy up indoors with a hot beverage. The 18th-century Hope & Anchor is a great little retreat. It has plenty of Devonshire charm and its food and drink options are just as locally inspired. You can always trust the catch of the day to be excellent.

What makes this pub especially great, is the fact that the beach is less than a minute’s walk away. Spend a day paddling in the water, relaxing on the shore, or taking a boat out, before relaxing in the Hope and Anchor and watching the sun set on another beautiful day in South Devon.

Hope Cove House

Hope Cove House overlooks the beach at Inner Hope. It is a cosy bolthole with a seasonal, ever-changing menu. The small restaurant is open for lunch between 12 – 2.30 pm Wednesday to Saturday throughout the Spring and Summer months.

After a swim, indulge and replenish at Hope Cove House. The beach bar is open from 10-6 pm Wednesday – Saturday for coffee, drinks and snacks. Its beautiful interiors complement the idyllic surroundings perfectly and the wine and beer lists have been carefully curated with local suppliers in mind.

The Old Inn Malborough

If you are wanting to explore a little further afield, just under a 10-minute drive away from Hope Cove is the village of Malborough. Here you will find The Old Inn. Praised for its friendly service, this traditional village pub offers drinks and hearty fare for reasonable prices. If you fancy eating, be sure to try the fish and chips or Sunday roasts. The generous portions are well-received by locals and visitors alike! Make sure that you book, however, as this popular spot is usually full even on weekdays.
