This charming riverside village may be small but there are a number of excellent places to eat in Dittisham with a couple of good pubs and a riverside cafe serving excellent locally caught seafood. Nearby Dartmouth is easily accessed by ferry or car for some of the best restaurants in south Devon, This historic town has some excellent restaurants including Mitch Tonks’ Seahorse and Rockfish and Ellie Wentworth’s The Angel and the Embankment Bistro. The Ferry Boat Inn – A fabulous location, right on the quay in Dittisham, this quintessential Devon pub is equally as popular with locals as with visitors. Stonebaked pizzas and Sunday roasts sit alongside real ales including their own branded Otter bitter, Sharp’s Doombar plus ciders and a good selection of 0% non alcoholic beers, wines and gins. This family and dog friendly pub is also a hit with celebs so keep your eyes peeled. 

The Red Lion – This popular local pub and restaurant is also the village shop and post office. Perfect for lunch or dinner during your stay with a menu of fresh locally sourced food, an extensive wine list and Dartmoor ales. 

The Maltsters Arms – Once owned by TV chef Keith Floyd, The Maltsters Arms has always been on our radar. Located on Bow Creek in the neighbouring village of Tuckenhay, it’s the perfect spot for lunch when you’re walking the Dart Trail. Dine on a seasonal menu of local produce including Dartmoor venison, local fish from Brixham and Plymouth and hand-dived scallops from Start Bay.

The Angel, Dartmouth – This outstanding multi-award-winning restaurant offers relaxed fine dining with fabulous views over the River Dart.  Executive Chef Elly Wentworth (former ‘MasterChef the Professionals’ Finalist) and her team focus on locally sourced ingredients to create dishes including cured bream and Brixham crab risotto with shellfish Bisque. Perfect for a romantic celebration dinner.  Elly also runs the Embankment Bistro (pictured) introducing classic French-inspired charm with the vibrant flavours of the South West.

The Seahorse – Run by celebrity chef Mitch Tonks and Matt Prowse, his business partner, this award winning restaurant sits right on the riverside in Dartmouth. Dine on the freshest Brixham fish including monkfish, scallops and sea bass simply prepared and cooked over a charcoal fire. Dine alfresco on the waterside during the summer months in true Mediterranean style. 

Cafes & coffee shops in Dittisham 

The Anchorstone Café. With an ever changing specials board and a mouthwatering  menu including Start Bay crab, Elberry Cove mussels, local spider crab, lobster salad and local hand-dived scallops, The Anchorstone Cafe is the perfect spot to dine alfresco and enjoy the views over the River Dart. Please note the Anchorstone Cafe is only open from April to October.

Café Alf Resco, Lower Street Dartmouth. Don’t be put off by the queue outside this awesome rustic cafe. It’s well worth the (shortish) wait. Serving up local freshly baked pastries and bread and delicious brunches served alongside freshly squeezed orange juice and their own blend coffee (locally ground and roasted). Alf’s is dog friendly so it’s perfect for all the family. Open daily from 7am-2pm.

Smith Street Deli, Dartmouth – A firm favourite! This delightful deli in the heart of Dartmouth has a great atmosphere, perfect for a coffee and pastry or fish platter for lunch. Pack up a picnic full of local cheeses, chutneys and cured meats and soak up the views on the riverside.
