Northside Overview

Tucked within the rolling patchwork of South Devon’s countryside, Northside is a soulful escape near Bantham . Hidden down winding lanes and framed by sweeping views of valleys and fields, this award winning designed barn conversion invites guests to embrace the art of slow living.

Inside, the space unfolds with effortless warmth. The open-plan living area, bathed in natural light, is the heart of the home - where the furnishings, upcycled pieces, and artisan ceramics create a mood of gentle, lived-in elegance. Curl up by the wood-burning stove with a well-thumbed novel, or gather around the dining table for long, laughter-filled meals as dusk falls beyond the windows. At its centre, the well equipped kitchen is both stylish and functional, with everything needed to prepare delicious meals with local ingredients sourced from nearby farm shops and markets. Whether it’s a simple breakfast enjoyed in the sun or a cosy supper shared by candlelight, the space is designed for relaxed, joyful cooking.

Northside sleeps 10 in four beautifully styled bedrooms. The master is a restful cocoon with soft linen, layered textures and views that roll out like a painting. The second bedroom offers equal charm, perfect for friends or family, with the same attention to comfort and design. Sleek, modern bathrooms, one with a deep tub and rain shower invites post-walk indulgence, while thoughtful touches throughout - from local artwork to hand-picked tableware - give the home a rich sense of place.

Step outside, and Northside truly comes into its own. The sunny patio is made for slow mornings and golden-hour lounging, with panoramic views that stretch across the valley. An al fresco dining area invites long lunches under wide open skies, while the barbecue and fire pit provide the perfect ingredients for relaxed evenings, sizzling local produce, and storytelling by starlight. All around, nature hums - a soundtrack of birdsong, rustling leaves, and wind in the trees. A private hot tub beckons for restorative soaks under the stars and the luxury sun loungers beckon that afternoon snooze. The pool table and table tennis provide light-hearted entertainment for sunny afternoons and friendly competition.

For those craving sea air, some of South Devon’s finest beaches - Bantham, Thurlestone, and the hidden gem of Wonwell - are just a short drive away. Ideal for seaside rambles, wild swimming or simply sinking your toes into the sand, these coastal spots offer yet another layer of magic to your stay.

Northside is more than a place to stay - it’s a pause, a breath, and a beautiful invitation to reconnect with nature, friends and family, and with yourself.

Northside Location

The lanes are narrow and winding so take it slowly and let your passenger take in the stunning scenery through gaps in the hedgerows. Drivers must watch out for cows, sheep, dogs and cyclists. Please remember to slow down for children and walkers. The hedges are not cut between March and October and can be overgrown. Wildlife rules here in Devon and the pace slows down.

There are places you stay, and then there are places that stay with you. Northside is most certainly the latter. From the moment we turned down the winding Devon lanes—flanked by wild hedgerows and the occasional sheep—we knew we’d found something special. Nestled in a quiet field where the pace of life shifts with the sun, this stunning hideaway offered us a rare and welcome pause. A sanctuary. A true exhale. By day, we wandered the rolling hills straight from the hut, the South Hams opening before us like a well-worn novel. A cycle to Totnes for lunch brought its own adventure, while afternoons were spent listening to birds above from the sun-warmed patio, coffee in hand, time gently melting away.

Things To Do In Kingsbridge

Kingsbridge Travel

How to get to Kingsbridge Kingsbridge is a beautiful Devon town in a stunning location, sitting at the head of the Salcombe estuary (actually a ria) this charming market town is loved by locals and visitors alike - and it just keeps giving! Think independent local shops, great deli cafes, award-winning restaurants and the beautiful quay with its moorings, popular with stand-up paddleboarders. The town has regular monthly Farmers’ markets, arts and crafts markets in the town hall and some newly emerging antique shops. So, you’ve booked your luxury holiday home with Finest Stays and are considering how to get to Kingsbridge, here’s a quick rundown of Kingsbridge travel. Flying to Kingsbridge Fly into Exeter or Bristol airports; You can fly into Exeter from Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Guernsey, Dublin, Belfast  City, Jersey, Isles of Scilly and numerous European cities. Pick up a hire car and drive to Kingsbridge, about 45 miles. Arrive at Bristol airport (108 miles) and pick up a hire car or get the train from Bristol to Totnes then get a taxi to Kingsbridge or hop on the 164 bus.    Driving to Kingsbridge Travelling from Wales, Midlands and the North, drive down to Exeter on the M5. From London, you can either come along the M4 and join the M5 at Bristol or take the M3/A303/A30 route and join the M5 at Exeter. The M5 converges into the A38 where you take the right-hand lane for Haldon Hill. Kingsbridge is easily accessed from this dual carriageway which links Plymouth and Exeter. Continue along the road with the slopes of Dartmoor on your right until you reach signs for Totnes and Kingsbridge, the slip road to your left takes you onto the A384. You don’t drive through Totnes town (but worth a visit during your stay), instead follow the A381 signposted for Dartmouth and Kingsbridge. The drive from Bristol will take a couple of hours and from London around 4.5 hours depending on traffic.   Kingsbridge by Train Totnes is just 13 miles from Kingsbridge and it’s the nearest railway station with regular trains running from London Paddington, the North, Wales and Birmingham. The journey time from Bristol is 2 hours and it’s a swift 3 hours(or thereabouts) from London Paddington. On arriving at Totnes station you can pick up a taxi, the fare is around £26 and it’s about a half an hour ride to Kingsbridge. Taxi Numbers During busy times we recommend pre-booking your cab as the taxi rank at Totnes can get quite busy with travellers waiting for their onward journey.
