1 The Boatyard Overview

Set right on the shimmering edge of the Kingsbridge Estuary, 1 The Boatyard is an elegant waterside Townhouse where design meets the natural beauty of this beautiful waterside setting. Set across three light-filled floors, this four-bedroom retreat offers sweeping estuary and countryside views, luxury comforts, and the kind of slow coastal rhythm that holidays are made of.

Whether you're sipping morning coffee on the balcony as the tide quietly rolls in or watching paddle boarders drift past under a golden sunset, this is a place to press pause and simply be.

Architecturally designed to frame the water at every opportunity, 1 The Boatyard balances it's coastal charm with modern style and luxury touches throughout. A private lift glides effortlessly between floors, making this home wonderfully accessible for all generations.

The open-plan kitchen and dining space is a sociable heart to the home. Seating eight with ease, it flows out to a private balcony where you can dine al fresco on local seafood with the estuary as your backdrop. Down the hall, a utility cupboard houses everything needed for longer stays - washing machine, dryer, and essentials neatly tucked away.

The top floor offers an expansive sitting room, where floor-to-ceiling glass doors invite in the ever-changing light and open out to a second waterside terrace. Sink into the deep sofas with a glass of wine or drift out to the balcony to watch the last boat of the day ripple through the still water.

Each of the four bedrooms has been thoughtfully dressed with calming tones, luxurious linens, and stylish furnishings to encourage deep rest after days exploring the South Hams and the neighbouring coastline destinations.

The master bedroom on the ground floor offers a king-size bed and estuary views, with built-in wardrobes and a sleek en-suite wet room. The adjacent double bedroom is a restful space with a family bathroom next door, with a bath and overhead shower.

The first floor bedroom also has the luxury of an en suite shower room and the second floor bedroom is ideal for younger guests or solo travellers with its own en suite shower room.

White Company Toiletries add a luxurious touch.

1 The Boatyard Location

The busy little town of Kingsbridge lies at the head of a marine estuary in the attractive South Hams area of South Devon. Kingsbridge is home to a range of lovely independent shops and coffee shops, as well as a local cinema and an award-winning pub. During the summer season there are river excursions to Salcombe to see the abundant wildlife in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), which also forms part of the South Devon Heritage Coast. Visitors can take a walk along the Kingsbridge Quay, wander through the narrow alleys off Fore Street or visit the Shambles, an Elizabethan market arcade. Around the South Hams area there are picturesque ports, such as Dartmouth and Salcombe, together with sandy beaches at Blackpool Sands near Stoke Fleming and the two sandy beaches at Thurlestone. There are a host of small attractive villages in South Hams offering interesting pubs, local farm produce shops and pretty rows of cottages, plus further afield the waterfront city of Plymouth is a vibrant centre housing the National Marine Aquarium, historic Barbican Quay and plenty of night life, including theatres, restaurants and bars. Kingsbridge can be easily reached by train to Totnes and then a local bus service which will take you to Kingsbridge town centre.

We had the loveliest stay at 1 The Boatyard, it’s one of those places that instantly makes you slow down and breathe a little deeper. Waking up to the sound of the water and watching the boats and paddleboarders drift by, with our coffee in hand was the perfect start to the day. From the doorstep, it was an easy stroll into Kingsbridge where we browsed the independent shops and picked up some local treats. The highlight was hopping on the Rivermaid ferry straight from the quay — a peaceful cruise along the estuary to Salcombe, where we had a long, lazy lunch and a bit more shopping in the sunshine.

Things To Do In Kingsbridge

Kingsbridge Travel

How to get to Kingsbridge Kingsbridge is a beautiful Devon town in a stunning location, sitting at the head of the Salcombe estuary (actually a ria) this charming market town is loved by locals and visitors alike - and it just keeps giving! Think independent local shops, great deli cafes, award-winning restaurants and the beautiful quay with its moorings, popular with stand-up paddleboarders. The town has regular monthly Farmers’ markets, arts and crafts markets in the town hall and some newly emerging antique shops. So, you’ve booked your luxury holiday home with Finest Stays and are considering how to get to Kingsbridge, here’s a quick rundown of Kingsbridge travel. Flying to Kingsbridge Fly into Exeter or Bristol airports; You can fly into Exeter from Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Guernsey, Dublin, Belfast  City, Jersey, Isles of Scilly and numerous European cities. Pick up a hire car and drive to Kingsbridge, about 45 miles. Arrive at Bristol airport (108 miles) and pick up a hire car or get the train from Bristol to Totnes then get a taxi to Kingsbridge or hop on the 164 bus.    Driving to Kingsbridge Travelling from Wales, Midlands and the North, drive down to Exeter on the M5. From London, you can either come along the M4 and join the M5 at Bristol or take the M3/A303/A30 route and join the M5 at Exeter. The M5 converges into the A38 where you take the right-hand lane for Haldon Hill. Kingsbridge is easily accessed from this dual carriageway which links Plymouth and Exeter. Continue along the road with the slopes of Dartmoor on your right until you reach signs for Totnes and Kingsbridge, the slip road to your left takes you onto the A384. You don’t drive through Totnes town (but worth a visit during your stay), instead follow the A381 signposted for Dartmouth and Kingsbridge. The drive from Bristol will take a couple of hours and from London around 4.5 hours depending on traffic.   Kingsbridge by Train Totnes is just 13 miles from Kingsbridge and it’s the nearest railway station with regular trains running from London Paddington, the North, Wales and Birmingham. The journey time from Bristol is 2 hours and it’s a swift 3 hours(or thereabouts) from London Paddington. On arriving at Totnes station you can pick up a taxi, the fare is around £26 and it’s about a half an hour ride to Kingsbridge. Taxi Numbers During busy times we recommend pre-booking your cab as the taxi rank at Totnes can get quite busy with travellers waiting for their onward journey.
