With the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been a downward trend in holidays abroad in favour of short, local trips. In this blog, we explore some of the reasons why Salcombe is the best option for a short stay this autumn.

It has been a difficult year for everybody. The virus has dramatically increased the levels of stress for most people for reasons that range from fear of the disease to the isolation period we had to go through and the changes in our routines.

During these months we have re-discovered the importance of taking time to check in with ourselves, spend time with loved ones and dedicate enough time to relax. It is no wonder that so many of us are now thinking about a well-deserved holiday break.

Local holidays are more popular than ever

New countries recently entered the list of restricted destinations from the UK, forcing those who were already there to quarantine for 14 days after flying back home. With even more countries at risk of joining the quarantine list, it might not be the best time to travel long distances.

Additionally, a holiday abroad could easily become a nightmare if you suddenly found yourself quarantined in an unfamiliar place because of a local outbreak of Coronavirus.

It is for this reason that holiday destinations in the UK have been especially popular in the last couple of months.

After all, a short weekend trip is sometimes all you need to disconnect and come back energised. And whilst summer might be over soon, that doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourself to a weekend break by the seaside in the autumn months.

If you can’t decide where to go, here are some of the reasons why Salcombe is the best Devon weekend destination out of season:

Visit the most beautiful seaside towns in Devon

Yes, Salcombe is particularly beautiful. But that doesn’t mean you can’t explore other small towns along the coast and incredible hidden spots. If you are looking for ideas, here are some of our recommendations for the best places to visit from Salcombe during your Devon weekend break.

Enjoy the best food and drink

You might have heard about the Salcombe Crab or the Salcombe Gin. Although these two alone already merit a visit, there is much more you can enjoy during your stay in this part of Devon.

In fact, we can guarantee you will have a hard time deciding which restaurant you want to try next! It can be especially difficult to find a table during the summer, so the quieter months are perfect to try all the local delicacies.

Discover Salcombe and Devon without the crowds

The most well-known beaches in Devon can get a bit crowded on a sunny summer day. Out of season, however, they are a paradise you can explore in a much more relaxed environment.

For instance, you can take the South Sands Ferry from the centre of Salcombe, which takes you to the South Sands beach at the entrance to Salcombe harbour.

And if the weather is not that great, there are still plenty of coastal walks you can explore around this area, such as this walking route to Snapes Points.
