Salcombe is known for miles around as being one of the most stunning assets of the South Devon coastline. A recognised Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with an array of beautiful beaches, rich flora and sapphire blue skies that meet the emerald waves at the horizon, there are few places in the world as enchanting as Salcombe. If you are lucky enough to be embarking upon a holiday in Salcombe in the future, here are five special sights you will not want to miss and where to find them…

1. Bolt Head

Many nature-lovers will head out on coastal walks in Salcombe, and a firm favourite is the Bolt Head trail. Setting off from nearby East Soar, walking to the delightfully quiet and picturesque Soar Mill Cove, before heading to Bolt Head. Here you will find some absolutely breath-taking views from atop the dramatic angular rocks, where you can gaze over a huge expanse of water where the eye follows the green mystical waters for miles.

2. The Sea Balcony

For all of the beauty of the coast without even having to leave your holiday accommodation in Salcombe, The Sea Balcony is an immensely indulgent retreat that looks over the sights of the town from every angle. This icon of luxury accommodation in Salcombe features impressive wrap-around balconies, so that from every bespoke-design room you can step out to face breathtaking views of the sparkling Salcombe estuary and East Portlemouth. Even inside, the stunning glass frontage gives panoramic view of every nook and cranny of the brilliant Salcombe landscape.

3. The Ferry to East Portlemouth

Taking the ferry to East Portlemouth to visit the beaches on the ‘other side’ is an activity on every Salcombe holiday-maker’s bucket list. Board the vessel, sit back and relax as you look over the bright waters from within the sea itself, viewing vibrant bird species, and all of the fantastic coves and bays of the South Hams area. In East Portlemouth you will find untouched beaches, rolling Devon countryside and a generous supply of traditional South West culture.

4. Overbeck’s Garden and Museum

If you are more partial to dry land, then you can still enjoy every wonder of the Salcombe landscape from Overbeck’s Garden and Museum. This amazing facility is the seaside home of scientist and inventor Otto Overbeck, and is home to sights from across the world as well as our very own Salcombe. Journey through palm trees, banana plants and citrus trees, before entering the house which has been converted into a natural museum, filled with cabinets of butterflies and bugs, collections of dolls, toys and model boats. Throughout your visit you will be able to squint over the treetops and see the astounding Salcombe seascape from bird’s-eye view.

5. North Sands and South Sands

Of course, when visiting Salcombe the beaches are the star of the show. North Sands and South Sands are the most popular beaches in Salcombe, and both provide stunning views of the Salcombe sea shore. North Sands is an expansive sandy beach, where you can look in awe over a wide stretch of dazzling blue waters, or perhaps even enjoy the sights whilst sampling the local seafood in The Winking Prawn. South Sands is a little more secluded, yet once again with soft golden sands where you can bury your feet whilst looking out onto the emerald waves and wooded cliffs.
