This short walk takes you from Hope Cove to the mouth of the river Avon, across beaches and local villages. It is a really great way of getting to know the local area better and take in some of the best views in the South Hams. 

The route

• Start at Hope Cove and follow the coastal path approximately one mile towards Thurlestone Sands and South Milton Ley. 

As you walk past the second-largest reed bed in Devon and the RSPB nature reserve, see what interesting wildlife you can spot. 

• The coastal path runs along the edge of the Thurlestone village golf course and the traditional local pub, ‘The Village Inn’. 

Make sure you watch out for any wandering golf balls! 

• As you round the head, Bantham beach will come into view. You can then cross the beach and hop on the small ferry across the other side of the bay where you can continue your walk to Bigbury Bay and beyond. 

The ferry runs infrequently in the warmer months so be careful not to get stuck on the other side! 

• Alternatively, you can carry on to the village of Bantham to complete your walk. 

Stop at The Sloop Inn in Bantham Village for a refreshment!
